Abstract:

Included here are a variety of Giving Voice to Values (GVV) style case studies and discussion guidelines and/or teaching notes, as well as modules of related such materials. These materials are followed by brief abstracts as well as suggestions as to the disciplines/courses for which they are most appropriate.
This material is part of the Giving Voice to Values Curriculum (GVV) – a collaboration between The Aspen Institute and Yale School of Management.

This module includes a number of short cases and other materials that revolve around the question of honest and accurate reporting. A collection of possible background readings on “earnings management” are provided with annotation, illustrating how they might be used to help students develop creative responses to frequently heard rationalizations for this behavior. Cases are set in business and non-profit contexts. In addition to accounting, these materials work well in discussions of ethics and in discussions of the different levers that may be appropriate for managers at different levels (entry, middle, senior management) within an organization who are attempting to voice and act on their values.
