If anyone should understand the relationship between ownership culture and corporate performance in an ESOP company, it’s Michael Quarrey. As an NCEO staff member in the 1980s (and now an NCEO board member), Quarrey was the first researcher to show that for ESOPs to improve corporate performance, companies needed to provide substantial employee involvement in work-level decisions. After several years at Connor Formed Metal Products, a California ESOP company, he joined Web Industries, a pioneer in developing ownership culture, as General Manager of its FilmX Division.
