Royal Dutch/Shell, a major oil company, faced widespread international criticism following the execution of Nigerian novelist and activist Ken Saro-Wiwa in November 1995. Saro-Wiwa had been a vocal opponent of Shell's environmental and human rights policies in Nigeria. What responsibility, if any, did Shell bear for Saro-Wiwa's death, and how should it respond to its critics?
